The name "Rourkela" in the local tribal language of "Sadri" means "Our Village". It comes under Sundargarh district of the Indian state of Orissa. It remained virtually untouched of civilization till the time of setting up of the first public sector steel plant at Rourkela in 1955.

Jamshedpur is situated in the southern end of the state of Jharkhand and is bordered by the states of Orissa and West Bengal Jamshedpur was declared the 7th cleanest city of India for the year 2010 according to survey by the Government of India.
